Home Economics

GCSE Home Economics focuses on; Diet and Health, and Consumer Awareness.

At GCSE, Home Economics will be assessed with

  • One written exam lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes (40% of final mark)
  • Investigation and practical exam in the diet and health section (40%)
  • Investigation in the consumer awareness section (20%)

The skills and knowledge acquired from studying Home Economics at GCSE level will be relevant and transferable to other settings enhancing career opportunities as well as leading onto A Level Home Economics.

However, if none of these career paths interests you the study of Home Economics equips you with essential life skills such as planning, preparing and cooking healthy meals for you and your family. This is a subject that has as much relevance in real life as it does in the classroom.
